24 Hour Track Run
11 - 12 MARCH 2023
Box Hill Athletic Club
(Hagenauer Reserve, Barwon Street, Box Hill, VIC)
To recruit dental practitioners to each take on one individual with a disability and manage their oral health for twelve months pro bono.
4pm March 11 to 4pm March 12, 2023 are the dates you need to save. I will be running for 24 hours. That’s right, I plan to keep putting one foot in front of the other.
Where will we be? We will be running laps at the Box Hill Athletic Club
(Hagenauer Reserve, Barwon Street, Box Hill, VIC)
Why would anyone run 24 hours I hear you say? The aim is bigger than just raising money, it’s about raising a workforce. That’s correct, a workforce. A dental workforce that will be passionate about making a difference in the lives of people with disability. A workforce that will see how amazing it will be to see a smile where before that smile was hidden away.
Money donated to the Foundation (One One Twelve) will be used to facilitate the oral health journey of those people who need assistance. So for example if the dentist says they would benefit from a certain dental appliance and they cannot afford, we will purchase it on their behalf.
I will keep moving because I want dental practitioners to sign on. I want them to agree to take on one person with a disability and manage their oral care for 12 months pro bono.
This program will ensure timely dental care and reduce the burden on an overstretched public dental system. If individuals still need the public dental care they will be starting with better oral health. Everyone wins, the individual, the dental profession and the public at large.
People with disability of all dimensions can sign on as well and let us know you need help with your oral care.
I want the public to rally their dental practitioner and encourage them to help people who are struggling. Come along, regardless of ability. Run, walk, do wheelchair laps with me, cheer me on, cheer those circling with me and even better bring along the name of your dental practitioner so we can add them to the list (don’t forget to check with them first). Bring them along! Pop in and say hi, before sport, after sport, during your lunch break, on the way home from work, on your way to work. You will be welcome any time. Come in your PJs and do a lap with me at night! How cool would that be! Do a single lap, do a dozen, don’t do any and just say hi. Let’s get out there and really make this a super event to raise awareness around oral health for people with disability and more importantly let’s get that workforce built, that connection made, that community built, one dental practitioner at a time.

Come and grab a sausage, have a cuppa, bring a picnic, join in the entertainment,
Our website is live (oneonetwelve.org). My team will keep a tally of everyone who wants to be part of the cause. To my dental colleagues, hear your name read out on the day of the event for everyone to see showing that you are prepared to change the life of someone with a disability who is struggling to obtain good quality oral healthcare. What could be more rewarding!

The Statistics
There are only 25 registered Specialists in Special Needs Dentistry in Australia and all of those are based in major cities. That amounts to 1 specialist per 176,000 people with a disability. (Dental Board of Australia, 2021)
